Missions


Sales Director is responsible for the overall business development and
leadership of our Japan retail network. This role is responsible for managing &
achieving sales objectives, profitability goals, and the highest operational
standards. This role develops strategies via strong cross-functional teamwork
and leadership skills with client experience top of mind.


Location
This role is based in Tokyo, Japan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Strategy
• Partner with Japan Managing Director and Global HQ in setting
short- and long-term objectives for Japan retail business
• Empower store leaders to develop market specific business plans
that will drive traffic and develop client base.
• Remain highly informed on regional environment trends including
competitor landscape
• Partner with Management and all corporate partners to support
retail network expansion and all key elements of new store openings
and renovations/relocations.
• Remain up to date on trend of department stores and new and
upcoming markets. Make recommendations to Managing Director
for store renovations/upgrades/expansion in order to increase sales
of existing markets and develop new ones
Leadership & Team Development
• Partner with Sr. Management to translate the RIMOWA values and
foster a collaborative culture while driving a highly successful and
profitable business
• Develop store management teams to deliver superior customer
experiences in all stores
• Plan, identify, communicate, and delegate key responsibilities and
best practices to store management team to ensure smooth flow of
operations within region
• Lead by example with a high standard of professionalism, inclusivity,
and positive attitude
• Review store environments and key business indicators within region
to identify problems, concerns, and opportunities for improvement
and provide coaching to store management team to take action and
achieve operational goals
• Work on staffing and recruiting Store leaders in close cooperation
with Human Resources, along with robust succession plans
• Mentor and coach Retail Managers/Store Directors on identifying
solutions and adapting to respective store and to develop their
managerial skills
• Partner with HR to identify skill gaps and opportunities for staff
development
Sales Management/ Store Performance
• Performance monitoring by reviewing sales weekly with Retail
Managers and Store Directors
• Continuously motivate and coach teams to meet assigned sales and
productivity goals
• Continue to innovate and refine methods to improve productivity
per FTE and sq ft to exceed annual KPI’s
• Build and nurture relationships with external key stakeholders.
• Empower Operations, CRM and Training stakeholders to lead
strategy and define requirements/expectations as well as
performance measures. Monitor the performance to ensure efforts
will serve to maintain and grow customer relationships.
• Ensure visual merchandising standards are maintained as set forth by
corporate visual department
• Work with VMD Manager to achieve goals of proper window
installation and display sets
• Empower Operation Manager to monitor the general appearance of
the stores: cleanliness, store maintenance, organization and tidiness
of sales area and back-of-house
• Performing any special projects or tasks as directed by Global HQ or
Japan Managing Director

KEY REQUIREMENTS
Work Experience:
• At least 10 years’ experience in retail with a focus on management &
operations; professional experience in a leading network expansion
and multi-door retail is a plus
• Product experience in luxury or high-end retail is highly desirable
Special Skills:
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate
effectively.
• Acute sense of luxury market and diverse luxury consumer behaviors.
• Proven ability to motivate sales teams with a clear set of challenging
objectives.
• Comfortable in a growing and fast-paced business with
competing/changing priorities.
• Exceptional organization skills
• Business English and Native Japanese
• Strong computer skills – PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
Work Requirements:
• Able to travel domestically 35% of the time and sometimes at short
notice.
• Able to travel internationally, a few times per year.
• Able to engage in an internationally connected environment
