Nowness has captured a striking dialogue between the graceful moves of dancer Lil Buck, the architecture of the Fondation Louis Vuitton, and the power of the works in the exhibition Icons of Modern Art: The Shchukin Collection in a hypnotic film shot at the Foundation.

Trained in both hip hop and ballet, Lil Buck has become an international phenomenon since his collaboration with Spike Jonze and Yo-Yo Ma “The Swan”. The video went viral and his performance popularized jookin’, a street dance that originated in Memphis. The success also opened the door to collaborations with an array of renowned artists.

Shot by Andrew Margetson, the film pays tribute to the exhibition Icons of Modern Art: The Shchukin Collection, celebrating the interaction between dance and the masterpieces on display at the Foundation. Set to an original score by Euvgeni and Sacha Galperine with a choreography inspired by classical ballet, Lil Buck moves through the exhibition galleries on his way to a climactic encounter with Picasso’s Trois Femmes.

This groundbreaking collaboration between the Fondation Louis Vuitton and Nowness resonates perfectly with the artistic program prepared in conjunction with the Shchukin exhibition. In addition to an extensive lineup of concerts – including piano recitals and music conferences – the Fondation Louis Vuitton has for the first time added dance to its program, including a performance by Lil Buck, a “danced conference” imagined by Nicolas Leriche, a bi-frontal staging of The Rite of Spring by Daniel Linehan, and the premier performance of Carte Blanche, a work by François Chaignaud.
