Givenchy pays tribute to Hubert de Givenchy with “Caraman” haute couture collection by Clare Waight Keller

Clare Waight Keller chose the Musée des Archives Nationales as the venue to present her Givenchy Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018 collection entitled “Caraman”, the name of the Paris townhouse where Hubert de Givenchy had his haute couture ateliers in the 1950s. The collection paid a moving homage to the Maison’s founder, who passed away earlier this year.

Clare Waight Keller presented the “Caraman” Fall/Winter 2018 haute couture collection on July 1 at the Musée des Archives Nationales in Paris. For this first haute couture show since Monsieur Givenchy passed away, the Artistic Director paid tribute to the founder, calling the collection “Caraman” after the Paris townhouse where Hubert de Givenchy set up his haute couture ateliers in 1959.

With exquisite refinement and poise, the Givenchy Fall/Winter 2018-2019 haute couture collection reflects the personality of the founder. Minimalist, graphic and subtly futuristic lines echo Monsieur de Givenchy’s creations from the 1960s and 70s, renewing the vision of a purist for whom elegance had to be suffused with a certain detachment.

Saluting the couturier’s lively spirit, each of the looks in the  Givenchy Fall/Winter 2018-2019 haute couture collection is named with an adjective that Monsieur de Givenchy himself used to describe his creations, and by extension his loyal customers, women who won his admiration for their audacity and intelligence.
